Where to drink this weekend in Singapore?

First of all, Thirdround would like to make a sincere apology to our Malaysia based readers as this post is more relevant to those staying in Singapore. #paiseh!

Yo! What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when deciding which pub/bar to go later? How do you define a great place to chill out and what makes you frequent a particular pub / bar? Have you ever finding it strange that there are some pubs / bars out there can even retain non-alcoholics as their regular patrons? Jam-packed even their beverages ain’t cheap at all? Regularly unoccupied even their beverages are crazily cheap? Of course there could be zillions of answers for this. It could be the food they served, the hot waitresses the hired, the location is central enough and et cetera. For me, everyone has their own particular prerequisite when it comes to deciding which pub / bar to go.

Fortunately, there are great variety of pubs out there these days, ranging from elegant, live performance, by the river, rooftop, jazzy, good food, self-brew beers and others operating in business to suck your money for you to choose from. Nonetheless, I’m not sure if you have the same feeling as me where I can hardly decide which pub to go very often or spending long time to make up my mind. One of the most likely reasons for this might be we are spoiled for choices nowadays! And now, let me spoil you further with another exceptional hang out spot - Beer Market.

Experience shouting in front of the ‘beer’ price indicator board while whacking a bottle of your chilled beer after work or even after class, and feel the excitement whereby the price of the bottle of beer you have just bought become more expensive in the next 5 minutes, and you’ll probably see yourself as the smartest in the pub. But there could also be the case where you become the dumbest ass in the pub when the bottle of beer you have just bought become the cheapest among all the others even before you finished it half.

Beer Market, located within the Singapore River Planning Area, Clarke Quay - the historical riverside quay in Singapore, links the price of alcohol to the unpredictable rise and fall of the stock-market.

The concept which originated in Barcelona caught on like wildfire in Europe, and subsequently in other parts of the world. The bar area, covered with screens, displays the fluctuating cost of the various local and international beers available, and this enables patrons to “buy low” and “drink high”, based on the ‘market prices’. The more popular the brew, the higher the price! It’s exactly the same as a trading floor.

The founder and Managing Director of Beer Market, Jeffrey Wan impressed with the unique and highly interactive concept while travelling across Europe where the prices of beer was determined by its demand. The entrepreneur felt that the local scene needed something unique to spice it up, and that is how Beer Market came about - Buy low, drink high!

On top of having great varieties of beers, Beer Market has all the makings of a perfect hang-out location with their blend of both local and international cuisine, to live-music acts such as local pop/rock sensation Elusion featuring Melissa, Pennylane and iped etc, to live-sports coverage and pool/darts machines. Expect to closely follow the ‘Beer Market Exchange’, where the prices of their numerous brews are updated every half-hour and displayed on screens all around the bar.

Price changes are influenced by trend and consumer demand, providing a new, interactive experience while drinking. Look out for bull runs and market crashes! But it’s not just beer that makes the Beer Market so popular. Beer Market is renowned about the food they served too. And right now it’s good news for all chicken wings lovers! Beer Market has introduced their latest food promotion Happy Hungry Hour, every Monday to Thursday from 18:00 - 20:00 hrs serving their famous wings, crispy cheese nachos and grilled sausage at just $3 nett. Hit the ‘trading floor’ and enjoy these crispy bites.

Located conveniently at the Foundry in Clarke Quay on River Valley Road, the bar is a short walk away from Clarke Quay MRT station operating daily from 18:00hrs till late. Moreover, the venue is also available for private events and interested parties can contact the bar for more information.
